Trump cashes in on Taylor Swift endorsing Kamala Harris with spoof Eras Tour merchandise
Donald Trump has begun selling spoof versions of Taylor Swift’s tour t-shirts after she endorsed Kamala Harris.
The former president’s official store launched the “Trump Era White T-Shirt”, a mimic of the merchandise for Swift’s Eras tour.
The $36 t-shirt has various famous images of Trump, including his mugshot from the Georgia election interference case and a photograph of him raising a fist after an attempted assassination in Pennsylvania in July.
In place of the text on Swift’s t-shirts, which reads “Taylor Swift: the Eras Tour”, it says: “Donald J. Trump: Make America Great Again”.
It comes after Swift endorsed Ms Harris, his Democratic opponent, immediately following their debate on Tuesday.
Writing on Instagram, the pop star said: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Swift, who endorsed Joe Biden at the 2020 election, said she had decided to be “transparent” about her political beliefs after Trump shared an AI-generated image that purported to show her endorsing him.
“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she said.
“It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
She signed off her post “‘Childless Cat Lady”, in a reference to controversial comments made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance.
After the endorsement, Trump said that he was “not a Taylor Swift fan” but predicted that she would lose fans over the decision.
“It was just a question of time,” he told Fox News. “You couldn’t possibly endorse Biden…But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
Trump has previously been filmed listening to Swift. In a clip posted on Facebook by his wife Melania in 2014, the couple could be seen sitting in his Rolls-Royce playing her song ‘Blank Space’.
On Friday, the Democratic National Committee released two new billboard ads in Las Vegas and New York themed on Swift.
“We’re In Our Kamala Era!” read one, in a nod to the name of her tour. Another, referencing one of her songs from the 2017 Reputation album, said: “A New Way Forward… Ready For It?”
