Trump says he will invite Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to the White House after Vegas fight

Donald Trump says he is likely to invite Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to the White House following their bloody bout in Las Vegas.

Fury thanked God after winning the WBC heavyweight championship in a decisive seventh-round technical knockout on Saturday night.

"Two great fighters," Mr Trump told reporters as he departed for his trip to India. "It was really very exciting."

"Maybe we have to bring them both to the White House - I don't know - because that was really a good one. I think we'll do that."

The visit would underscore again the remarkable political conversion Wilder has undergone since he criticised Mr Trump over race issues in 2017.

Both fighters are known to be fans of Mr Trump, but at one point, Wilder was just the opposite - criticising the president in stark terms.

Three years ago he told a journalist who asked him about Mr Trump's attituded to 'black America': “He don’t give a damn about us. It’s plain as day. He don’t give a f*** about us. That’s not making America great again.”

But just 12 months later, he was back on the Trump train. He joined the president in the Oval Office and looekd on as Mr Trump issued a posthumous pardon for Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight champion, who was convicted of violating racist laws a century ago.

Wilder said: “A wrong was corrected for something that should never have happened, and of all of the presidents, Donald Trump was the one to do it.”

He later said that his previous negative comments about Mr Trump were due to the "fake news" presentation of Mr Trump's positions.
