US President Donald Trump has a fair bit in common with the Dark Lord Voldemort: he looks down on Mexicans the way Voldemort talked about muggles, and Trump's battle with the press is reminiscent of what happened with the Daily Prophet and the Quibbler.

With that in mind, you'd think it'd be a dead cert that if the world of Harry Potter was real, Trump would definitely be sorted into Slytherin, right?

Not only is it the house Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) was sorted into, it also housed the Malfoy family and Bellatrix Lestrange, among others.

That was one fan's train of thought as he tweeted "Slytherin Alumni go far! CUT TO MONTAGE of Jared Kushner, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr".

But apparently not, as his theory was shot down by the ultimate authority on everything to do with the Wizarding World, JK Rowling herself.

The author tweeted "You've got to get the letter before you put on the hat, Oliver."

Basically she's saying that Donald Trump wouldn't have the capacity to understand magic, which is understandable, as he doesn't seem to understand social media.

Rowling previously tweeted that "Voldemort was nowhere near as bad" as Trump on the day of his inauguration.

She has also had a typically snarky response to a Trump supporter who threatened to burn all their Potter books and DVDs.
