Trump Supporter Attacks BBC Cameraman at El Paso Rally

The BBC said on February 12 that it had written to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders “asking for a full review of security arrangements for the media” after a BBC cameraman was attacked at a Trump rally in El Paso, Texas, the evening before.

The BBC’s Washington news editor, Eleanor Montague, posted a video of the incident. She said her colleague Rob Skeans was attacked after “the crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night.”

BBC Americas Bureau Editor Paul Danaher said in a tweet that he had written to Sanders about the incident, and said “access to the media are was unsupervised.” He added that “no one in law enforcement intervened before, during or after the attack.”

Skeans told the BBC that he felt a “very hard shove” while he was recording footage. The video shows Trump speaking before the camera shakes due to an out-of-shot impact. A man in a “Make America Great Again” cap is then seen being restrained as he shouts “f*** the media.”

According to the BBC, Trump noticed the incident, and confirmed Skeans was well “with a thumbs up after it happened.” Credit: BBC News via Storyful
