Trump Supporters Gather in Washington to Protest Election Results

Supporters of President Donald Trump gathered in the nation’s capital to protest the results of the 2020 election on Tuesday, January 5.

Footage from Freedom Plaza shows a crowd of people holding Trump flags, talking, and dancing. Many people in the crowd are not wearing face masks.

Melinda Tsang, who took the video, said the atmosphere at the event was “positive, uplifting, and encouraging.”

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser asked locals to keep away from the downtown area, with protests planned on Tuesday and Wednesday, when Congress is set to affirm the result of the Electoral College.

Local reports said the National Guard would be mobilized in the capital, and every police officer would be on duty. Credit: Melinda Tsang via Storyful
