Truth Seekers co-creator and star Nick Frost has said that the new Amazon Prime Video horror-comedy is a "love letter" to The X-Files.

Featuring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the iconic paranormal investigators Mulder and Scully, The X-Files was built as a 'monster of the week' format, meaning there'd be fresh terrors to discover around every corner.

In a new interview with Variety, Frost suggested this is where the two shows are similar.

"We wanted something which wasn't necessarily British in feel," he noted, before name-checking a second inspiration.

"We wanted it to be a bit Scooby gang-ish, but also with a story that's getting bigger and bigger as the world opens up to them."

Further along their chat, Frost also weighed in on blending horror aspects with comedy.

"You don't write a comedy script and add jumps, or write something horrific and add jokes. It's just a very natural way to write," the 48-year-old explained.

"You're writing a mystery with characters who are funny because humans are funny and weird and flawed and broken, so all your characters can be all those things.

"You can have a creeping sense of foreboding and also the same time it also being funny without having to undercut any of the jokes or the jumps."

Truth Seekers is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
