Tucker Carlson went on a lengthy, sarcastic diatribe to kick off Tucker Carlson Tonight Thursday, mischaracterizing Democrats and the media as showing anti-police bias following the shooting death of 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday. Not long before guilty verdicts were handed down in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd, a Columbus police officer shot and killed Bryant, who was attacking another young woman with a knife. The Columbus Police Department quickly released body camera footage showing as much. While some prominent Democrats and media personalities condemned the officer, many more have come to his defense. Carlson failed to mention those who came to the officer’s defense at any point in the diatribe.
“At a triumphant press conference yesterday, leading Democrats unveiled their findings which are now a plank in the party's platform. They are going to allow children to stab each other,” Carlson said, with a graphic reading “Let The Kids Knife Fight” over his shoulder. “Now, stabbing people has long been taboo in this country, especially for those under the age of 18. For decades young Americans have hidden their switchblades, their stilettos, their Ka-Bars, their machetes. Kids were forced to live as if plunging blades into strangers was something to be ashamed of, instead of a normal, healthy part of childhood, but no more.”
