A woman has criticised TUI after she alleges her friend was disturbed in the night by a bedbug crawling into her ear during a £1,300 holiday in Majorca.

Selina Dalglish, who celebrated her 41st birthday on the trip, said her dream birthday getaway turned into a nightmare when they found 'little red bugs' in their beds at the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort in Magaluf. They also allege their sheets were marked with 'bloodstains' from squashed pests.

After raising their concerns, Selina and her friend claim the hotel suggested the pests were likely bedbugs. She says they had to launder all their clothes and even freeze their shoes for a full day to try and eliminate them.

The pair flew out from Manchester Airport on September 14, and said upon arrival everything seemed 'perfect'. However, on Monday 16th, Selina woke up and noticed a bite on her arm, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"I assumed it was a mosquito bite and didn't think anything of it, although I've never been bitten before," she stated. "Then I noticed a bug in the bathroom and just squished it, I thought it had probably just gotten through the doors."

On the morning of Selina's birthday, she claims her friend woke up to the sensation of something 'crawling in her ear'. She alleges her friend managed to catch it and 'squish' it against the sheet, leaving a bloodstain.

"She then turned her phone torch on and found more bugs in the bed," she said. "Then I noticed there were more bloodspots on the bedding where we must have been squishing them overnight. So we went down to reception and told them, and eventually got hold of the housekeeper."

The duo allege that they were advised to launder all their clothing and even place their footwear in the freezer for a full day to eliminate the pests. A different room was provided to them, yet Selina mentioned the experience left them perpetually on edge.

"It ruined the holiday," she confided to the MEN. "It was horrible. I couldn't stop scratching and checking the bed every two minutes. We were counting down the days until we came home! ".

Post-holiday, back in Salford, Selina lodged a complaint with TUI and received an offer of £50 in compensation a sum she deems 'insulting', given the £1,300 cost of their trip. Subsequently, a larger offer of a £100 voucher was made, however, the claim was settled before she could accept it.

The Manchester Evening News reached out to both TUI and the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort seeking their stance. Both declined to comment when approached by our team.
