Tupac and Biggie would be 'great' friends if they were alive today - Salt-N-Pepa EXCLUSIVE

A new documentary ‘Tupac Assassination: Battle for Compton’ is set to make sensational claims about the resons rap legend Tupac Shakur was murdered as he left a boxing match in Las Vegas in 1996.

One of the many conspiracy theories that swirled at the time was that his rival, Biggie Smalls, ordered the killing, but no arrests were made and seven months later, the Notorious B.I.G was also gunned down in a brutal drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.

Tupac would have turned 46 years old today, and when Yahoo Celeb UK got the chance to sit down with his old friends and fellow 90s rap legends Salt ‘N’ Pepa, we of course chatted about their pals Tupac and Biggie.

Pepa (Sandra Denton) had an interesting theory about how their lives would have turned out, and said that had they survived their respective gun battles, Tupac and Biggie would have grown out of their feud and become the best of friends.

Asked if they would have worked out their differences, Pepa said: “I would think so, they were actually close before. They were really close. Somewhere, something happened in-between, something got misunderstood, it was crazy, something got divided.”

The Shoop rapper added: “I think at this point (today) it would have been like a 50 Cent / Kanye battle, where it could have been something great, fun, even, legendary.

“And they would have been collaborating, everyone would have wanted to see that.

“That would have been the greatest thing. For that to happen. And I felt in my gut that that would have happened, one day. Everybody would have wanted that. For them to get back and do a song together. That would have been an amazing breakthrough.”

So it would have been a happy ending?: “Yeah, totally.”

Suge Knight – the Death Row Records executive that Tupac was signed to – has thrust the unsolved mystery of Tupac’s death into the limelight once more and claims he was the real target the night Tupac died.

Though she didn’t want to speculate on that, Pepa said: “I don’t know, I really don’t know. I new Tupac, he was in my video. Salt and I knew him very well, we’ve done shows together and ironically Biggie lived two doors down from me when I lived in New Jersey and we were working on songs together right up until he died.

“I think it was all a big misunderstanding. They were two incredible MCs, I mean even to this day everyone acknowledges them. All I know is that they were amazing and well respected in the game. Hands down… It was sad.”

Salt N Pepa will be joning Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Coolio, Young MC and Colour Me Bad on the I Love the 90’s tour, which hits the UK this Autumn. You can buy tickets here. Tickets.
