A fresh warning has been issued to UK tourists travelling to Turkey following a terrorist attack. Some five people were killed and 22 more suffered injuries after an armed assault and explosion at an aerospace firm near Ankara.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned the "heinous" terrorist attack which happened at the Tusaş headquarters on Wednesday, October 23. The Foreign Office has since issued guidance to any British nationals travelling in the area.

It reads: "There has been a terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries’ facilities in Kahramankazan, 40km northwest of central Ankara, with a number of deaths and casualties reported. The security response is ongoing. If you are in the immediate area follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local media."

Elsewhere in Turkey the Foreign Office has multiple restrictions in place. All travel within 10km of the Turkey-Syria is not advised due to a heightened risk of terrorism in northern Syria. Roads in the Hatay province near the border may be closed at short notice.

Earlier this week travel advice for Italy was updated due to severe flooding. More than 160mm of rain fell on Bologna last weekend as extreme weather struck northern parts of the country.

One person died after their car was swept away in the town of Pianoro. The region of Emilia Romagna has been the most affected by flooding, although most of Italy has been gripped by storms.

River banks burst as heavy rain caused flash floods, while emergency services intervened in Sicily to rescue people from roofs of buildings. In some areas people were told to avoid non-essential travel.

In an update on October 21, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) issued new information. It said: "Severe weather and flooding is affecting many areas of Italy, particularly Emilia Romagna, Liguria and Sicily.

"Rail services and roads may be affected. The website of Ferrovie dello Stato has more information (in Italian only).

"Check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities. The website of the Civil Protection Department has more information."
