This year’s Turner Prize exhibition is now open to the public, taking place at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull for the first time as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.

The exhibition of work by shortlisted artists Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Buttner, Lubaina Himid and Rosalind Nashashibi will be on display until next year, with the winner announced on December 5.

Widely renowned to be one of the most important (and often headline-grabbing) art prizes in the world, this is the first year that artists over the age of 50 have been considered. A recent rule change recognised that artistic breakthroughs can happen at any time in an artist’s career.

The Turner Prize sees one artist win £25,000, with £5,000 going to the other shortlisted artists. It has previously been won by Grayson Perry, Gillian Wearing, Steve McQueen and Rachel Whiteread.

Last year’s prize went to sculptor Helen Marten - although Andrea Hamilton’s sculpture of a giant backside was perhaps the biggest hit on Instagram.

The exhibition is open from today until January 7 at Ferens Art Gallery. Admission is free.
