Turtles Rehabilitated and Released After Eating Plastic

Three turtles who had eaten various forms of plastic were among six released back into the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday, January 12, following rehabilitation at a marine wildlife center in San Clemente del Tuyu, Argentina.

All six turtles — two green turtles and four loggerheads — had been caught in fishing nets, and were nursed back to health by the Fundacion Mundo Marino. One of the green turtles expelled an array of plastic objects that eventually weighed in at 22 grams (0.77 ounces).

After convalescing, the turtles were brought back to the ocean on Wednesday, where they were released. This footage, recorded by Fundacion Mundo Marino, shows the release, as well as some of the objects recovered from turtles. Credit: Fundacion Mundo Marino via Storyful
