TV Choice Awards: Sheridan Smith Pays Tribute To Cilla Black

In August, we were shocked and saddened by the news that TV legend Cilla Black had tragically passed away in Spain after suffering from a stroke.

Picking up the TV Choice Award for best actress for her portrayal of the late singer and entertainer last night, Sheridan Smith paid tribute to Cilla, describing her as an ‘amazing lady’.

The 34-year-old played the entertainer in the ITV biopic ‘Cilla’ last year, and picked up the best drama performance award for her fantastic work at the 2015 National TV Awards.

Speaking to the audience as she collected her ‘Best Actress’ accolade at the TV Choice Awards, Sheridan said: “Obviously, it’s tinged with sadness.

“It’s an absolute honour and privilege to play such an amazing lady. Thank you, Cilla.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Bravo, Sheridan.

Elsewhere at the awards, presenting duo extraordinaire Ant and Dec nabbed the best entertainment show award for their ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, as well as winning best reality show for ‘I’m A Celebrity’, and best talent show for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, all of which they present.

Have you two even got any more space on your mantlepiece for all of these?

Amanda Holden accepted the award for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, but actually offered the award to ‘The Great British Bake-Off’ during her speech.

She joked: “Mary Berry, I’m a massive fan of you. I’d give this to you. I think yours is a better show.”

ITV drama ‘Broadchurch’ won big too, grabbing the gongs for best drama series and best actor, thanks to the ever-wonderful David Tennant.

And the best soap award? ‘EastEnders’ got their grubby mitts on that one this year.

CONGRATULATIONS, EVERYONE.
