Comedian Romesh Ranganathan has shone a light on his own battles with 'suicidal thoughts', emphasising the importance of mental health as he backs a charity house prize draw. Romesh has thrown his support behind the Omaze initiative offering a £2 million house in Devon, with proceeds supporting the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) - a cause dedicated to aiding those in crisis situations.

As a patron of CALM, Romesh candidly shared his past experience, commenting: "I'm thrilled that CALM is partnering with Omaze. People may look at me as 'that comedian on the TV' but I know firsthand what it's like to lose a close mate to suicide and also to really struggle with suicidal thoughts."

He added: ''And I know I'm far from the only one - one in five of us will have suicidal thoughts. That's a huge number and it's why, as CALM Patron, I know being involved in the Omaze House Draw is so important. Not only will it mean more people know that CALM is there for them, but it will also help fund their life-saving helpline, so CALM can be there for people when they need it the most."

The Omaze Million Pound House Draw aims not only to create a new millionaire but also to fundraise for CALM, amidst statistics showing that every 90 minutes, someone in the UK dies by suicide a leading cause of death among young and under-50 males.

Given that CALM's suicide prevention helpline receives a call every 59 seconds, a fact reported by SWNS, the service's value cannot be overstated. Faced with a growing number of calls, the charity acknowledges the challenges they face.

The partnership with Omaze will help sustain the vital helpline, potentially saving lives and keeping families intact, reports the Mirror. James Oakes, Chief International Officer at Omaze, remarked: "Everyone at Omaze is honoured to be partnering with CALM for our latest house draw."
