The 5 best shows on TV tonight: Tuesday 6 July

More football means less new programming on TV again tonight but there are still a few faithful shows to rely on.

For those not watching the Spain vs Italy match there's more Bake Off: The Professionals and Forensics: The Real CSI.

Plus there's also programmes on the lives of Ernest Hemingway and Agatha Christie on BBC Two and Channel 5, respectively.

Bake Off: The Professionals - 8pm - Channel 4

The three top teams from both the heats come face to face with new rivals as they set about whipping up almond pithiviers and individual savoury brioche.

This time they must make impressive sugar constructions for their showpieces inspired by a futuristic jungle theme.

Hemingway - 9pm - BBC Four

The second episode of the documentary charts Hemingway's rise to success with his second novel A Farewell to Arms which was based on his own experiences in WWI.

Before that, it also looks at the release of his story collection In Our Time and first novel The Sun Also Rises as he lived in Paris.

Forensics: The Real CSI - 9pm - BBC Two

This time around the forensics team from West Midlands Police arrive at a scene where a woman has reported a house has been smashed up and someone's been beat up inside it, and the attackers have fled.

Inside they discover the body of a young man and complex crime scene while a second man from the scene is later declared dead at hospital.

Both bodies have unusual puncture wounds, and it's up to the forensic team to piece together the details of the murders.

Agatha Christie's England - 9pm - Channel 5

This Channel 5 documentary visits the real locations that inspired Agatha Christie in her many fictional stories.

It also examines how she drew on her surroundings and the people around her to come up with her acclaimed body of work.

Love Island - 9pm - ITV2

It seems not even the inhabitants of Love Island are immune to having their social skills impacted by lockdown as this year's first week feels more jarring than usual.

None of the couples are firmly committed to each other at the moment either, so the addition of two new bombshells tonight could be exciting.

Plus there's also drama when PE teacher Hugo Hammond upsets some of the girls.
