TV legends who have never won an Emmy vent frustrations in hilarious sketch

Jason Alexander, Scott Bakula, Zooey Deschanel, Alyson Hannigan and Fred Savage joined the Emmy broadcast Sunday night for a hilarious sketch portraying a support group for actors who have never won the award. All aired their grievances, and while all are fine actors, Alexander made the case to have real beef with the Television Academy.

“Alyson, you should get down on your knees and thank the universe that you’ve never been nominated,” Alexander said to Hannigan. “I’ve been nominated eight times, seven consecutive for playing George Costanza. (Singing)Co-stan-za. Yeah, sure you know him. Everybody loves him. Everybody loves him. I lost all of the seven times. I want my Emmy.”

Naturally, Dr. Phil showed up with some sage advice for the actors.

“You are forever gonna be the last pig under the gate if all you do is sit around and whine without action,” Dr. Phil said. “If you want an Emmy, get yourself booked on Ted Lasso or The Crown, that’s what you gotta do. Action.”

Video transcript

CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER: The eye in you sees the we in me, OK?

ZOOEY DESCHANEL: Well, also, where's my [BLEEP] Emmy?

JASON ALEXANDER: Hello, hello.

SCOTT BACKULA: There it is. There it is.

ZOOEY DESCHANEL: Where's my Emmy?

KYLIE MAR: The 2021 Emmy Awards Sunday took a moment to recognize some actors who have not taken home the trophy. Jason Alexander, Scott Bakula, Zooey Deschanel and Alyson Hannigan joined the broadcast for a hilarious sketch with Emmy's host Cedric the Entertainer, portraying a support group for non-Emmy winners.

SCOTT BACKULA: I would trade one of the smaller house for an Emmy is--

ALYSON HANNIGAN: [CRYING]

CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER: Whoa, oh, OK. Alyson, Alyson, what's going on?

ALYSON HANNIGAN: Well, nothing, I just thought maybe this could get me an Emmy.

KYLIE MAR: It's almost a crime that Alexander never won for his role of George Costanza on "Seinfeld." So he has a real reason to have beef.

JASON ALEXANDER: I've been nominated eight times, seven consecutive for playing George Costanza.

[LAUGHTER]

(SINGING) Costanza, Constanza.

[LAUGHS]

ZOOEY DESCHANEL: Yes, yes.

SCOTT BACKULA: We all love it. We love it.

JASON ALEXANDER: Everybody loves him. Everybody loves him. I lost all seven times.

[LAUGHTER]

ALYSON HANNIGAN: Ooh

KYLIE MAR: This sketch was also joined by Fred Savage, who got snubbed by the Emmys at a very young age.

JASON ALEXANDER: I've been doing this since I was a kid, right?

FRED SAVAGE: Oh, did you start early, Jason? Did you start young?

[LAUGHTER]

Because I have two nominations by the time I was 14, zero wins. You don't bounce back. That's why I'm reduced to directing this sketch.

[LAUGHTER]

KYLIE MAR: And naturally, Dr. Phil showed up with some sage advice for the actors.

DR. PHIL: If you want an Emmy, get yourself booked on Ted Lasso or "The Crown." That's what you gotta do, action.

[LAUGHTER]
