One Day at a Time
After three seasons, Netflix called time on One Day At a Time, the series starring Rita Moreno which followed three generations of a Cuban-American family, despite its high critical ratings. The Jeremy Kyle Show
After the death of one of the show's guests, ITV decided it was time to cancel The Jeremy Kyle Show for good. Steve Dymond died at the age of 63 around a week after reportedly failing a lie detector test on the show. Parliament's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee subsequently launched an inquiry into reality TV, with MPs later saying the programme 'makes a mockery' of its aftercare for participants. Santa Clarita Diet
The zom-com starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant had a loyal fanbase after its first season which only got bigger as the series got better and better as it went into seasons two and three. However, Netflix announced earlier this year that the show was not being brought back for a fourth season. To rub salt into the wound, the series ended on a cliffhanger, meaning that fans won't find out what writers might've had in mind next. Jessica Jones
Luke Cage, Ironfist and Daredevil were all announced to be getting the chop from Netflix last year, and 2019 saw more casualties for Marvel series as Netflix cast Jessica Jones aside, confirming its third run would be its last. Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb published a letter to fans, confirming the news was the streaming giant's decision as he wrote: “Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that.” (David Giesbrecht/Netflix)Yahoo Celebrity UK - 5/11
The Punisher

Scarborough
The BBC comedy had its beginning and end this year as the programme, which starred Catherine Tyldesley and Jason Manford, had just one series before it was announced it would be its last. Cast member Maggie Ollerenshaw, who played character Geraldine, made her disappointment clear in a tweet which read: "Devastated to hear @Scarborough is not being recommissioned by the BBC. The OA
The peculiar sci-fi series lasted for two runs before Netflix gave it the chop, to the frustration of its many fans, with some being so distressed they protested outside Netflix headquarters. Star and co-creator Brit Marling shared her upset over the news to Instagram earlier in the year writing that she and the show's other creators, Zal Batmanglij "were deeply sad not to finish this story". Bojack Horseman
The adventures of the troubled former star was met with huge acclaim over its past five series as Bojack Horseman got to grips with some dark subject matter, all the while interspersing plenty of witty dialogue and animal puns - but its sixth season is its last. Todd star Aaron Paul took to Twitter earlier in the year to suggest it was Netflix's decision to "close the curtains" on the beloved cartoon. Tuca and Bertie
The imaginative, funny and heartwarming series about two bird best friends aired its first and last season this year. Tuca and Bertie, created by Bojack Horseman designer Lisa Hanawalt, holds a 98 percent critic approval rating on review website Rotten Tomatoes, but glowing critical reception wasn't enough to keep it going. All Together Now
The singing competition with a twist which had Spice Girl Geri Horner as one of its 100 judges was not recommissioned by the BBC this year. All Together Now, hosted by Rob Beckett, had enjoyed two seasons and a celebrity special before its cancellation. Empire
Empire is set to officially conclude next year with its sixth and final season after Fox announced the show was to end. It comes after falling ratings but also a great deal of controversy surrounding Jamal Lyon star Jussie Smollett after he claimed to be the victim of a hate crime. The actor was written out of the fifth season's last few episodes, but show runner Brett Mahoney has said it would "be weird" to end the series without him. (Fox)Yahoo Celebrity UK

Sometimes TV cancellations come out of the blue, blindsiding loyal fans and prompting protest but other times, they aren’t a surprise at all.
It’s almost always guaranteed that someone, somewhere will be upset when their favourite show is taken off air and 2019 brought many disappointments to legions of followers.
The shows on this list did not come to a natural end like TV titan Game of Thrones rather these are series that were cut down, perhaps in their prime, and not recommissioned.
While they may have their last hurrah in 2020, or have been gifted a second life, all of these doomed series were sentenced to cancellation in 2019.
