Episode 15 'The Calm Before' stunned viewers as Carol (Melissa McBride), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) saw the decapitated and reanimated heads of ten of their friends on pikes.

Henry (Matt Lintz), the adopted son Carol shares with husband Ezekiel (Khary Payton), was among Alpha's victims. Henry has played a major role in season 9's Whisperers storyline.

Talking about how Alpha's actions would affect Carol, Kang told Entertainment Weekly: "It’s gonna have a huge impact on Carol moving forward. We started this season seeing her really happy. We saw her get engaged and be married, and she grew out her hair because she wasn’t being abused. She had this happy family."

Kang continued: "And obviously, a loss like this is going to have a gigantic emotional impact. We'll start to see some of that impact in the finale episode, and where her head is at and what she winds up doing.

"Of course, she’s got strong feelings about Alpha and the Whisperers. Carol is an amazing character, and Melissa McBride is just a fantastic actor, so I can’t wait to keep going with it from here."

The Whisperers had already killed Jesus in episode 8 'Evolution', while in episode 12 'Guardians' Alpha decapitated a resentful follower who argued over her decisions.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
