Twin Peaks and Parks and Recreation actor Brent Briscoe has passed away at the age of 56.

His family confirmed that Brent died on Wednesday (October 18) after suffering a serious fall that resulted in internal bleeding and heart complications, and the family later released a statement paying tribute to a "genuine" man.

"We lost a class act on Wednesday," the statement read (via Variety). "Brent played hundreds of roles throughout his career but his greatest role was to his family and friends. He was as genuine as they come. We will miss him dearly."

Brent played a number of roles across his career, including starring as JJ on NBC's Parks and Recreation between 2011 and 2015 and most recently he appeared as Detective Dave Macklay on the Twin Peaks revival series.

Prior to Twin Peaks, Brent had worked with Lynch before on Mulholland Drive, where he played Detective Domgaard, and Lynch also shared a statement following news of the actor's passing.

"I want you to know how much I loved working with Brent," he said. "I worked with him on Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks. I loved him as an actor and a great person. I'm holding good thoughts for all of you. I will really miss working with Brent again."

Among some of Brent's more well-known projects include a role in the Billy Bob Thornton-starring Sling Blade and A Simple Plan and acting alongside Tom Hanks in The Green Mile, as well as guest starring roles in TV shows such as Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, 24 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Briscoe is survived by his father Carl, his brother Kent, and sister Shelley West.
