An eerie new trailer for the Twin Peaks revival brings you back into the dark of future's past.

No words are spoken in the new 30-second TV advert, instead we're taken on a tour of the most famous Twin Peaks landmarks - including the Double R Diner, the police station and… the Red Room.

The inclusion of the Red Room points to the revival series delving back into the malevolent spirits of the Black Lodge, even though Killer Bob actor Frank Silva has died and Michael J. Anderson (aka the Little Man from Another Place) isn't involved in the new episodes.

While the trailer does feature new footage of all of these landmarks, there are no actual scenes with the massive cast - adding to the mystique of David Lynch and Mark Frost's 18 new episodes.

Twin Peaks 2017 is, in fact, being kept so secretive that David Lynch hadn't even let co-creator Mark Frost watch the new season as of late March or allowed the cast know anything about the plot beyond their own scenes.

"There isn't really a need to have everybody read the whole script," Lynch argued. "So they get their scenes. And when we work together, they ask many questions, and they get answers. People get what they need."

The revival mixes classic cast members such as Kyle MacLachlan (Agent Cooper), Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne) and Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson) with A-List newcomers Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Michael Cera and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Twin Peaks' two-hour season premiere will be simulcast on Sunday, May 21 at 9pm on Showtime in the US and Monday, May 22 at 2am on Sky Atlantic in the UK. Watch a previous teaser below:
