A pair of twin brothers threatened to blow up a police station and cars during the May 2023 riots in Ely. Morgan and Jayden Williams, both 18, were youths at the time of the offence.

Morgan, of Pentwyn, and Jayden, of Grangetown, attended a police cordon on Wilson Road near the disturbance which broke out on May 22, 2023 after the death of two boys in Ely, 15-year-old Harvey Evans and 16-year-old Kyrees Sullivan.

There, the twins made threats to property belonging to South Wales Police. The court heard Morgan Williams threatened officers by saying: “Your station, your police station is getting blown up tonight, on my brother's grave.” He also said: “Even your houses, I’ll find out where you live.”

Jayden Williams said: “All these 30 cars are getting blown up.” Both were charged with threatening to cause criminal damage and pleaded guilty. They have been committed for sentence at Cardiff Crown Court on October 21.

The pair are among 31 individuals to have been charged with offences relating to the public disorder, although they were not charged with the offence of riot. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news.

In a hearing on Thursday for one of the other cases, prosecutor Alex Orndal gave a general summary of the circumstances. He said: "Shortly after 6pm on May 22 last year, South Wales Police received a report of a road traffic collision in Snowden Road. Two teenagers, Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans were involved in that collision and tragically passed away at the scene.

"Whilst police officers were present dealing with the road traffic collision and protecting the scene, members of the public were described as getting restless and agitated. Some showed hostility to the police due to rumours police had been pursuing Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans at the time of the collision. A cordon was moved up to Stanway Road and adjoining roads."
