Twitter to launch gold and grey checks: Musk

STORY: Twitter will roll out verified gold and grey check marks next Friday (December 2).

Alongside the relaunch of the coveted blue check service, the rollout of which was delayed earlier this week.

That’s according to a Tweet by Chief Executive Elon Musk.

He said: "Gold check for companies, grey check for governments, blue for individuals (celebrities or not).”

He called the move "painful, but necessary".

All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the check is activated, Musk said.

"Individuals can have a secondary tiny logo to show they belong to an organization if verified as such by that organization," the Twitter chief said in another Tweet.

The company had paused its recently announced $8 blue check subscription service as fake accounts mushroomed.

The blue check mark was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, public figures and journalists.
