Twitter: Site Rolls Out New Archive Tool

Twitter is rolling out a much-anticipated feature to allow its users to download every tweet they have ever sent and browse through their archive.

All tweets and retweets from the beginning will be accessible, and once an archive is created, users can view their past tweets by month, search keywords, hashtags or usernames, the micro-blogging site said.

"Maybe you wanted to recall your reaction to the 2008 election, reminisce on what you said to your partner on your 10th anniversary, or just see your first few Tweets," the company said.

The feature is accessible through Settings, where a "request your Twitter archive" option is being made available.

Once they make the request and the archive is ready for download, users will receive an email with instructions.

However, Twitter warned the feature was being rolled out slowly - starting with a "small percentage" of users whose language is set to English.

Twitter is available in 20 languages across the world.

It also invited users to retweet old favourites at hashtag #TwitterArchive.

Some users were amused to look back at their past tweets.

"Downloaded my @Twitter archive. My first tweet was 'Isn't sure what the point of this is' here I am 16,666 tweets later...," said one user, ‏@KurtH79.
