Two arrested for murder in baby boy's death probe

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a baby boy. It follows the tragedy in Stoke-on-Trent last month.

West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Sherwin Road, Burslem, on August 27. The ambulance service notified police about the incident.

A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were initially arrested on suspicion of causing/allowing the death of a child. They were released on conditional bail as the investigation continued. Staffordshire Police has now arrested the pair on suspicion of murder.

They are being questioned by detectives. Specialist officers are supporting the baby’s family.

Detective Inspector Gina Pope, from the police's Major Investigations Department, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a distressing incident which will have shocked the local community. We are working to establish the circumstances around the baby’s death

“Speculation on social media would be extremely unhelpful and will cause unnecessary distress to those affected by this incident at this already very difficult time.”
