Two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after man seriously injured in horror shooting

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting on Sunday night (May 26).

Emergency services descended on Aspinall Crescent, Little Hulton, at around 9.30pm following a 'suspected firearms discharge'. Greater Manchester Police said shots had been blasted at a house.

The victim, now confirmed to be a 20-year-old man, was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries. A scene remained in place overnight and throughout Bank Holiday Monday amid ongoing investigations into the incident.

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that two men, both aged in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody to be questioned.

A section 60 that was put in place in the local area has now been extended until 12.45am on Wednesday (May 29). It gives officers the extra powers to stop and search people in a defined area within the specific times listed.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident to 'establish the full circumstances' that led up to the shooting, that is thought to have been a 'targeted attack'. The force said it has made 'significant progress' with the investigation.

In the aftermath, some terrified residents told the Manchester Evening News how they wanted to move house as they shared fears about the rise in crime in the local area.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Humphreys of GMP’s Salford district, said: “We are making significant progress with our investigation, and this has led to the arrests of two men who we believe were involved. Our enquiries will remain ongoing until we have managed to gain a full understanding of the timeline of events.
