Two casualties rushed to Edinburgh hospital after crash involving police car

A 79-year-old woman and male police officer were both taken to hospital

A pensioner was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after a collision involving a police car.

The incident happened at around 2.35pm on Tuesday, on Newbattle Road in Dalkeith. A marked Volvo police vehicle was involved in the smash with a Nissan Micra.

The Nissan driver, a 79-year-old female, was treated for injuries in hospital. A male police officer was also taken to the Royal Infirmary.

Their conditions are unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.35pm on Tuesday, 21 January, 2025, a marked Volvo police car was involved in a road crash with a Nissan Micra on Newbattle Road, Dalkeith.

“A male officer and the 79-year-old female driver of the Nissan Micra were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where they were released after treatment for their injuries. Enquiries are continuing."
