Two clinicians working in Oxford trekked 26 miles alongside 368 fellow walker including broadcasting legend Jeff Sterling for prostate cancer.
Dr Philip Camilleri and Dr Nicola Dallas, GenesicCare clinicians based in Oxford, walked from Wembley stadium to Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park on Sunday, September 17, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
The walk raised over £210,000 for the charity.
The money raised from the walk, organised in honour of TV presenter Bill Turnbull who died from the disease last year, will help improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer.
Dr Camilleri specialises in urological cancers – specifically prostate, bladder, renal and testicular cancers.
Dr Dallas has a special interest in technical radiotherapy and introduced the use of intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and now dynamic arc IMRT for the treatment of head and neck cancers at the GenesisCare Oxford centre.
Both clinicians work at GenesisCare, a private cancer care provider and headline sponsor of Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Football March’, to provide patients access to the latest ground-breaking treatment and individualised treatment pathways with fewer side effects.
Dr Camilleri has launched and led on numerous national research studies on urological cancers in Oxford and set up the prostate brachytherapy service in the region in 2013.
He said: “I walked with Prostate Cancer UK to raise awareness of the risks and also the advanced treatments available.
“Our research reveals 69 per cent of men want to better understand the latest cancer treatment options available.
“As a result of ongoing innovation, patients can now access ground-breaking treatments like the MRIdian which is exclusively available in the UK at GenesisCare and receive treatment in a reduced timeframe whilst reducing side-effects.
