Two collisions caused major delays in Belper this afternoon
A pedestrian is in hospital with serious injuries following a collision in a Derbyshire town. Police were called just after 3pm this afternoon (Friday, October 18) to reports of a crash involving a Vauxhall Vivaro van and a pedestrian in Cheapside just off the Morrisons roundabout in Belper.
The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are believed not to be life-threatening. Officers have confirmed there have been no arrests made at this stage.
This was one of two collisions that caused major delays in the two as another collision was reported soon after. It occured at 15.36pm at the junction of Becksitch Lane and the A6 Derby Road between a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Fiesta.

A man in his 50s suffered minor injuries a result of the second collision, however both of the vehicles had to be recovered from the scene due to the damage sustained.
While both of these incidents took place in close proximity, they were not related. However, they both caused significant delays for motorists in the town centre as rush hour approached.
Trentbarton buses were suspended in the area for a period of Friday afternoon, however the road has now reopened. A spokesperson for the bus company released a statement at 5.10pm. They said: " The road has now reopened, but traffic is still heavy in the area as well as another road traffic collision at Beckstich Lane. All sixes are now back to normal route, but we are currently suffering heavy delays of up to 40 minutes."
