Two Dead After Hostage Standoff at Austin Children's Medical Center

Two people were found dead at a children’s hospital in Austin, Texas, late on January 26, local police said, after a hostage standoff that lasted six hours.

The incident took place at the Children’s Medical Group building in Austin. Fox News quoted a parent of a patient at the center saying a doctor was being held.

Tony Plohetskim, a reporter with KVUE, said audible police communications during the standoff indicated the hostage taker was also a doctor.

This was not yet confirmed by police, who said a homicide unit was on the scene and investigating.
