Two-Door Audi A5, S5, and RS5 Models Are Not Returning for 2025
The two-door versions of the Audi A5, S5, and RS5 will not make it to the 2025 model year.
Both the coupe and Cabriolet models will be dead, but the four-door Sportback survives into 2025.
The A5 coupe was first launched for the 2008 model year.
Audi announced today a suite of updates for its 2025 lineup, but among the changes one model was missing. The A5 coupe and Cabriolet, along with coupe and convertible versions of the sportier S5 and RS5, were not included in the list of 2025 model year vehicles, and Audi confirmed to Car and Driver that the coupe and Cabriolet will not return for 2025 but that the four-door Sportback body style for the A5, S5, and RS5 will carry over with minimal changes to the new model year.
The A5 broke onto the scene for the 2008 model year with a smooth, elegant design. The coupe arrived first and was originally powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 with a six-speed automatic, with the S5 swapping in a 4.2-liter V-8 and the choice of a six-speed manual gearbox. The Cabriolet appeared for 2010, adding a 2.0-liter four-cylinder at the bottom of the range and initially using a supercharged V-6 and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic for its S-branded model. The S5 coupe switched to the six-cylinder for the 2013 refresh.
While a four-door Sportback model was offered elsewhere during the first generation, it remained forbidden fruit for American shoppers until the second-generation A5 showed up for 2018. The second generation looked a bit sharper and came out of the gate with a turbocharged four-cylinder in the A5 and a turbocharged V-6 in the S5. While a manual was initially offered on the A5, the S5 stuck exclusively to an eight-speed auto.
The coolest version, however, was always the RS5. Debuting in 2013 for the United States, the original RS5 had a 444-hp 4.2-liter V-8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In its second generation, the RS5 employed a twin-turbo V-6 with the same 444 hp and an eight-speed automatic.
While the two-door variants of the A5, S5, and RS5 are on their way out, the four-door A5 Sportback—along with the S5 Sportback and RS5 Sportback—are sticking around and receive a few updates. Audi has added more content to certain packages—such as a set of rear USB ports in the Convenience package—and all A5s now wear black exterior trim. A new S line Plus package with even more darkened trim is now offered on Premium Plus and Prestige models.
