Three fire engines and a 'rapid response rescue unit' were scrambled to a house fire. Emergency services were called to Alton Street in Crewe in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Now Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed crews found a fire had engulfed a bedroom. The alarm was raised just before 3.10am yesterday morning.

Two engines from Crewe were sent to the scene alongside a further fire engine and the rapid response rescue unit from Nantwich. A spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire in Alton Street, Crewe. On arrival they were confronted with a fire involving a first floor bedroom of the property. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"A large fan was used to help clear smoke out of the building and the affected room was checked over with a thermal imaging camera. All occupants of the property were accounted for."

No details on a potential cause have been released.
