Two Killed During Unsanctioned Car Rally in Wildwood, New Jersey

Two people were killed in a crash at an unsanctioned car rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday, September 24, officials said.

This footage of the H2oi/H2022 event was captured on Ocean Avenue in Wildwood, close to the scene of the collision. Local media reported that large crowds turned out to watch the cars on Saturday, and drivers were seen doing burnouts and donuts through intersections.

Drivers were also seen blocking police who were trying to break up the event, the report said. The City of Wildwood said additional police departments were called in as local officials were “grossly outmanned” as events escalated on Saturday night.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Gerald J White, 37, was driving a 2003 Infiniti when it crashed into a 2014 Honda Civic and then collided with two pedestrians at Burk and Atlantic avenues at around 9:30 pm. White attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended, the prosecutor’s office said.

Those killed were identified as 18-year-old Lindsay Weakland, who was a pedestrian, and 34-year-old Timothy Ogden, who was a passenger in the Honda Civic.

White was charged with two counts of death by auto, assault by auto, and other offenses. Credit: @mrstar01 via Storyful
