Snaps taken on set in Atlanta reveal that two Marvel mainstays are returning to the MCU.

Cobie Smulders, who plays Agent Maria Hill, and Samuel L Jackson, who plays Colonel Nick Fury, were photographed on January 21 filming their "upcoming Marvel hit" – though it's not clear which Marvel hit this is going to be.

Avengers 4, which stars basically everyone, is one possible choice – this and Avengers: Infinity War definitely shot in Atlanta – though filming officially wrapped on the project earlier in the month.

Other speculation, though, has it that the two could be prepping for Captain Marvel, which hasn't officially started shooting yet.

In one image, we see Fury without his eye patch and with scarring around his eye, while in another the patch is on. This could be hinting that it's Captain Marvel – the movie is going to be set in the '90s and could well reveal how he got his eye injury.

Kevin Feige has at least confirmed that a two-eyed Fury would appear in Captain Marvel, while Jackson has specifically said he won't be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4.

"I wasn't in the 'superhero argument' movie [ie Captain America: Civil War], I'm not in Avengers 3 and 4," Jackson told Yahoo Movies.

Which all comes down firmly on the side of Captain Marvel. On the other hand, there are hefty hints that Avengers 4 could involve an element of time travel, which would allow Fury to be eye-patch-less.

And while he's said he's not in it, well... 1. that was five months ago, 2. he might have been toying with us and 3. it's weird that he wouldn't be involved in a massive superhero showdown like this.

In conclusion then – we can't say for sure exactly which Marvel project this shot is from, but we're glad at least that Fury and Hill will be getting some more screen time.

Avengers: Infinity War is released in the UK on April 27 and the US on May 4, while Avengers 4 follows in the UK on April 26, 2019 and in the US on May 3, 2019. Captain Marvel opens on March 8, 2019.
