A spokesman of the Spanish National Police in Tenerife said: “National Police have arrested two foreign men aged 29 and 30 as the suspected authors of a crime of homicide in Arona.

“During a fight, the victim was attacked whilst on the floor with violent blows that eventually led to his death.

“The incident happened in the early hours after a row outside a nightspot.”

One man was arrested immediately after the attack, while another was taken into police custody a few hours later.

Ms Hughes said: “Michael was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and now has been taken away from his family.

“We still don’t know why he was attacked, but we know he was attacked randomly in the street when he went to get some food.

“Words can’t describe what’s happened. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body, he was always the person to step back and walk away.

“There’s nothing bad to say about him, he was the life and soul of the party and was so funny. It’s a total waste of a life.”

The GoFundMe page has raised £2,000 of its £5,000 goal.

The GoFundMe page to pay for his funeral arrangements has raised more than £1,600 of a £5,000 target.
