Two People Detained as 'Security Incident' Prompts Evacuations at LAX

A security incident at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) prompted a ground stop on the night of October 28, forcing hundreds of travelers to evacuate.

In a statement posted to Twitter, the airport said that at approximately 7:30pm local time, “there was a report of a person with a firearm in Terminal 1” prompting around 300 passengers to evacuate.

LAX said no shots were fired and no weapons were recovered. Two people sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and were treated by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A later post from the LAX Twitter account confirmed that two people had been detained by police for further investigation.

All runways had re-opened and traffic was “moving normally” as of Thursday night.
