Two people hospitalised after 'serious' crash on Chillingham Road in the early hours
Two people have been hospitalised following a serious collision which resulted in a busy road being closed for several hours.
At around 2.15am this morning, emergency services responded to a 999 call reporting a "serious" collision on Chillingham Road, in Heaton, Newcastle. A police cordon was put in place and the road was closed between Third Avenue and Shields Road throughout the morning. The road has since reopened.
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed that two people were taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary as a result of the collision. The service dispatched three emergency ambulance crews, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), a doctor, a clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic to the scene.

At around 9am this morning, a vehicle was recovered from the outside The Chillingham pub, along with debris from the road nearby. Drivers were advised to avoid the area until the road was able to reopen.
A NEAS spokesperson said, "We received a call to 999 at 2.17am this morning to reports of a serious road traffic incident on Chillingham Road in Heaton, Newcastle. We dispatched three emergency ambulance crews, the Hazardous Area Response Team, a doctor, clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic to the scene. We transported two patients to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
Northumbria Police confirmed that officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision on Chillingham Road at 2.15am this morning.
