Two people stranded in freezing pond in Bedworth as onlookers try to help

Two people who were found stranded in a freezing Bedworth pond have been rescued. Both were reportedly submerged in Sidings Pool off Smorrall Lane earlier today (Saturday, January 11).

Police were dispatched to the incident at around 12.15pm. Crews from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended and found a man and a woman, who have not been identified, in Sidings Pool.

Both were safely rescued and have been taken to hospital this afternoon (January 11). Onlookers who helped with the rescue effort were praised by Nuneaton and Bedworth Police.

In a statement issued today (January 11), Nuneaton and Bedworth Police said: “We have attended an incident this afternoon at Sidings Pool off Smorrall Lane, Bedworth, involving two people being stranded in the pool of water.”

It added: “A male and female have been safely rescued from the water and have been taken to hospital as a precaution. We would like to thank members of the public present who have assisted in efforts to get the two individuals out of the water.”
