Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps returning for a one-off special

Will Mellor has finally announced he will reprise his role in Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet of Crisps for a one-off special.

Mellor, 39, played Gary ‘Gaz’ Wilkinson, in the popular BBC comedy alongside Sheridan Smith, Ralf Little, Natalie Casey and Kathryn Drysdale.

Mellor broke the good news to fans in an Instagram video in which he said people have been messaging him more than ever after the series was aired on Gold.

“People have been messaging me about how much they miss the show and how much it was part of their growing up saying ‘please bring it back for a special or do something’,” he said.

“Well, I have been listening and reading your messages and I think we are going to get a Two Pints special off the ground.”

He went on to reveal he has talked to show creator Susan Nickson, and said they will “hopefully” get to work on a special to say “thank you for all the support of people who love the show and got behind it”.

He finished: “So watch this space, just got to dot the ‘i's and cross the ‘t’s and hopefully a Two Pints special will be on the way.”

The announcement comes four years after Mellor told the Standard he would love to see a live version of the popular sitcom which ran for nine series from 2001 to 2011.

“I think it would be great to do Two Pints live on stage – a one off show where we go to different cities to say thank you because we had a huge following,” he said in 2015. “Without that we wouldn’t have lasted more than two series’ because the press wasn’t that kind to us.

“I think if we could get Susan Nickson to write us a script – maybe a bit of a musical – it would be great fun.”

Since starring in the comedy, Mellor has enjoyed roles in several hit shows including Line of Duty, No Offence and Hollyoaks.

The BBC recently put all 79 episodes of the series on iPlayer.

Mellor’s news comes days after Smith, who played Janet, would not be reprising her role as Rudi in the upcoming festive Gavin and Stacey special on Christmas Day.
