Two members of Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Siochana, sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds during a standoff on a residential road in Dublin on May 25, police confirmed. One man was arrested, police said.
As police officers approached a house on Whitechapel Grove in Blanchardstown, shots were fired from one of the windows, prompting a heavy response involving the Armed Support Unit and Emergency Response Unit, local media reported.
Video taken by local resident Thomas Donnelly shows armed police on the scene, and two injured men in plain clothes being carried by police officers to an ambulance.
Donnelly told Storyful that a man started shooting at police from inside his house while people were playing with their kids in a field nearby. The families “panicked and started running down the road,” Donnelly said. “One woman and her child knocked on the door terrified so we took them in,” he added.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene, according to Irish media reports.
