Two taken to hospital after 'coming off' motorbike on A19 in County Durham

Two people have been taken to hospital after falling off a motorbike on the A19.

National Highways confirmed delays of up to 30 minutes on Saturday afternoon after the incident, which took place on the northbound side of the A19 between the A181 and A1086 in County Durham.

Emergency services were on the scene shortly after 1pm, with the North East Ambulance Service taking both who had fallen off the motorcycle to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 13.12 today (Saturday, June 1) to attend to two people who had come off a motorcycle on the northbound carriageway of A19. A paramedic crew and clinical team leader attended and took both patients to Sunderland Royal Hospital."

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at 1.15pm yesterday (June 1) to a collision on the A19 northbound, just after the Peterlee turnoff involving a car and a motorcycle.

"The rider and pillion passenger were injured during the collision; their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the car was uninjured."
