Two taken to hospital after crash closes County Durham road

Two people have been taken to hospital after a collision on a County Durham road.

Emergency services were called to Essington Way in Peterlee shortly after 4pm on Friday. ChronicleLive understands that the road was closed by police, and that at least two vehicles were involved.

One person was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, and another was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (November 15) at 16:13.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and one rapid response paramedic to the incident. One patient was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and one patient was taken to North Tees Hospital."
