A Huge Proportion Of Londoners Want Selfies BANNED In Public Places

They are generation selfie, but it seems today’s youth have finally had enough of their peers’ vanity.

Two-thirds of young Londoners believe the taking of pictures should be banned in public.

They have grown tired of“annoying” and “vain” people constantly snapping themselves and their friends around the streets of the capital.

In a poll of 2,000 18 to 24-year-olds, 68 per cent said they are sick of it. A further 42 per cent said they cutting people out on social media because of the sheer quantity of selfies they bombard their friends with while on holiday.

But it seems the trend may not go away so quickly, with 37 per cent said they spend at least five minutes a day taking pictures of themselves – with 15 per cent of these also admitting to wearing full make-up on the beach for when the photographic desire hits them.

There are now growing calls for the capital to extend controls which have already seen the O2 Academy in Brixton, Wimbledon, Wembley and Arsenal’s Emirates stadium clamp down on the use of selfie sticks.

But it may be hard to change the habits of sefie-loving celebrities. The likes of Lily Allen, Niall Horan and Cara Delevingne have been known to share pictures of themselves travelling on public transport.

The figures come as Three launches a campaign to get tourists to turn the lens on the outside world.

The campaign coincides with the mobile provider adding 24 new destinations to its ‘Feel at Home’ service, which allows phones to be used abroad without extra cost from September.

A Three spokesman said: “We hope that in line with the feedback from the great British public, people start turning the camera around and taking fronties instead of selfies.”
