Tyler ISD announces cosmetology salon to open for public two days each month

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Tyler ISD announced that their cosmetology salon will be open to the public, to allow for Career and Technology Center cosmetology students to practice for their certifications.

The school district said the salon will be open two days every month, from January through May, for cosmetology students to practice necessary skills for their industry certifications. The salon will be open to the public on these days from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The school district said the salon will be open on the following days:

  • Jan. 25

  • Feb. 8

  • Feb. 22

  • March 7

  • March 28

  • April 11, there is only one date in April due to testing days.

  • May 2

  • May 16

Available services are dependent on what day the salon is open, but examples of services and their cost are the following:

  • Haircut with shampoo, $10

  • Haircut with shampoo, blow-dry and style, $20

  • Shampoo with blow-dry and style, $15

  • Shampoo with blow-dry and silk press, $20

  • Nail polish change, $5

  • Manicures, $10

  • Paraffin wax added to a manicure, $3 extra

  • Facials, $10

Tyler ISD’s Career and Technology Center said they provide various career pathway studies for students to have a direct work based learning experience. Some of the pathways they listed on their website include:

  • Cosmetology

  • Culinary arts

  • Animal science

  • Architecture and construction

  • Graphic design and multimedia art

  • Audio and video technology

  • Business, marketing and finance

  • Exercise science

  • Firefighter

  • Law enforcement
