According to the Palestine Police Department, on March 3 officers on patrol near the 200 block of West Colorado attempted to perform a traffic stop on a gray Dodge passenger car. Officials said that the vehicle did not stop and sped away, ignoring multiple stop signs.

Palestine PD said that the vehicle continued to evade them until eventually turning into a driveway in the 1700 block of S. Sycamore Street. According to authorities, once the vehicle was stopped the driver, identified as Brandon Blackmon, 35 of Tyler, refused to comply with commands given by the officers and began to walk away despite having been told to get on the ground.

Palestine PD said that as Blackmon was walking away one of the officers deployed his taser and Blackmon was taken into custody. Blackmon reportedly told officers that he fled because he was on parole and driving without a valid license.
