Fredrick Leon Harvey, 60 of Tyler, pleaded guilty on Friday to murdering Horatio Williams, 57 of Tyler, on Aug. 8, 2022 in the 900 block of West Morris Street.

Officials said they were called to the scene around 3:14 p.m, where they discovered a man, later identified as Williams, with a gunshot wound. Williams later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

According to the arrest warrant, a witness told police the two men were inside the pool hall and “everyone was giving everyone a hard time and joking with each other.”

Police said the two went outside and continued to argue and joke until Williams pulled out a shotgun from a van. After displaying the shotgun, Williams reportedly placed the shotgun back in the van.

About 30 minutes later, Harvey allegedly came around the corner with a handgun in each hand. The witness said both men began exchanging shots after Williams retrieved the shotgun from the van.

Williams had reportedly kept making statements to the effect of “either I’m going to die today or I’m going to shoot someone.”

A second person with gunshot wounds arrived to the hospital, and told police they had been at the pool hall during the shooting. The second person reportedly identified Harvey as the shooter. Police located Harvey, who had arrived at a local hospital, claiming he had been in a motorcycle accident and hurt his hand. However, detectives said the hand injury was “indicative of being shot.”

When confronted by authorities that his wound was not consistent with a motorcycle accident, Harvey replied “yeah, I know.”

Harvey was arrested that same day and was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and murder.
