Typhoon Kammuri batters the Philippines with heavy rain as country holds Southeast Asia Games

Typhoon Kammuri brings heavy rains and strong winds the Eastern part of the Philippines today (December 2) affecting some of the sporting events in the 30th Southeast Asian Games being held in the country.

The SEA Games organisers have already cancelled the windsurfing heats scheduled for today while the women's triathlon was a day early on Sunday to take advantage of the good weather.

Footage shows a residential area in Northern Samar in Luzon being ravaged by the heavy downpour.

The rare December typhoon is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 typhoon, causing heavy rains across SEA Games venues until it makes landfall on Tuesday morning.

Some provinces in Luzon began evacuating thousands of people in anticipation of the storm.
