Typhoon Kammuri whips coast of eastern Philippines ahead of landfall

Video obtained by Reuters showed lashing rains and swaying palm tress on the streets of Gamay, a city in Samar island in the Philippines.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall late Monday or early Tuesday (December 3), according to weather forecasters, slamming into southeastern Luzon and skimming past the country's capital Manila.

The weather phenomenon comes as the Philippines is in the midst of hosting the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Thousands of residents in Bicol, a region of Luzon, were evacuated into shelters ahead of the typhoon's landfall, local media reported.
