Tyson Fury’s trainer Ben Davison has hit back at accusations he mismanaged ‘The Gypsy King’ in the run-up to his meeting with Otto Wallin.

Fury sealed an unanimous points win over Swedish heavyweight Wallin in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning – but walked away from the bout with a nasty cut that caused him problems throughout the fight.

The Manchester fighter was a heavy favourite and controlled the mid-to-late rounds but father John, on punditry duty back in the UK with BT Sport Box Office, labelled the performance the worst of Tyson’s career before taking aim at Davison.

"His strength and power went tonight, he was as weak as a kitten from the first round,” he said. “At 18 stone 1, I've warned him and warned him. He is a 19-stone fighter.

“If I had my way, the lot [Tyson’s team] would be gone. If they keep that team that will be his career [gone],” he said.

Davison, who has worked alongside Fury since the start of 2018, hit back at those accusations, however, writing on Twitter in response to Fury Snr: “He’s had a tough fight which he clearly won, after being cut terribly not only by one but two cuts. Sometimes you can’t win.”

Fury was taken to hospital for treatment on his cuts after the win with promoter Frank Warren suggesting his rematch with Deontay Wilder, scheduled for February 22, could be pushed back if they do not heal in time.
