This morning, TfL announced their controversial decision to revoke Uber’s London license. Their statement included problems with Uber’s approach to ‘reporting serious crimes’ and ‘obtaining enhanced DBS checks’ amongst others.

The app-based taxi service’s current licence expires on 30 September, following a temporary four-month one given in May. The company is planning on appealing TfL’s decision, and has until 13 October to do so.

Until the appeal process is finalised, Uber can continue its services.

While some agree with the decision on the basis of improved safety, others were quick to point out the benefits of Uber.

The company has a history of controversy, and has previously been called out by the Metropolitan Police for allowing a driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a young woman to continue working.

TfL has said they will not be making any further comments ‘pending any appeal of the decision.’
