Uefa Champions League permutations: How Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, City and Tottenham can qualify for the knockouts

Tottenham can secure top spot ahead of reigning European champions Real Madrid when they take on Borussia Dortmund in Germany on Tuesday.

Here, Standard Sport looks at what is at stake for the English clubs in this week’s Champions League clashes...

Spurs have already qualified in Group H and will ensure a first-place finish on Tuesday if they match Madrid’s result against APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, given they have a better head-to-head record than their Spanish rivals.

Chelsea will advance to the next stage if they win away against Qarabag in Group C on Wednesday, while a draw would also be good enough if Atletico Madrid fail to beat Roma in Spain.

Liverpool will qualify if they triumph away to Sevilla in Group E on Tuesday and a draw would also get the job done if Spartak Moscow lose at home against Maribor.

Manchester City already have a place in the last 16 and can secure top spot in Group F when they host Feyenoord Tuesday. They need to better Shakhtar Donetsk’s result away against Napoli.

Manchester United would qualify and also ensure they finish first with a draw away against FC Basle on Wednesday. A top-two place in Group A would also be guaranteed whatever their result if CSKA Moscow do not beat Benfica.
